i arrived to berlin TXL pretending i was still a nanny on paper and marco waving his keys in the air behind the protective glass. (he had said that he could not come to the air port to get me because he had a work dinner.)
i was shocked and relieved. i gathered my jet-lagged ass together and ran to his car with 100+ pounds of luggage and he drove through berlin rush hour traffic like only europeans (or assholes) know how. then dropped me off at the underground and said “the greatest key is the key to my flat. you remember how to get the way, right?”
right. i remember how to get the way...
and i guess i did.
it was actually really nice to have the evening to myself. i didnt really do anything. i didnt unpack or do anything productive. i sat plunking at the piano and at an acoustic bass.
i woke up relatively early considering the jet lag and cleaned the entire kitchen because it was a beyond-mess mess. (marco and sebastian went up north to shoot a movie or some other dork-tastic project.)
later i picked up tess (sara goldface’s friend of a friend from alaska/seattle.) from the u-bahn station, i walked there in my mom’s 1986 patterned long-johns, patent-leather doc martens and a fucking parka. one of the biggest mistakes of my life. and we sat around the flat and caught up until she yelled at me to get dressed.
later we went to kruezberg (sp?) and met up with her school friend madeline and her friend ross who was visiitng. it made for a good afternoon. lots of silliez.
after lunch and coffee we went our separate ways, and on the way back to the flat i was over come with a comforting feeling. i felt like this is the right place for me right now. a feeling i was doubting yesterday. i felt comfortable. and excited. and hopeful. and im still reveling in the glow of those feelings.
it’s time.
this is the dawning of the age of the get it grrl.
dis is where i live.
in a single, 37 year old guy’s sound engineer studio/living room/hammock.
